Memories of the past and days gone by are what our museum is all about. The dreams of the past and present whether you long to see up close one of the remaining Dukes of Hazard cars from the hit show or the 1999 Series 1 Carroll Shelby car with less than 300 miles driven or how about the 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible. Not only does our museum offer you such a variety of cars from the past 70 years but also the look and feel of the things around you as you grew up. There is so much memorabilia around that it brings you back to your childhood.
Yes the great cars of the '50s like a Concourse 1957 DeSoto convertible, stunning, or maybe the '40s Cadillac 4dr convertible. What about a 1936 Ford 4dr convertible. There are over 65 convertibles on display and yes the chrome shines and the paint is perfect. We have assembled memorabilia from all the years that the autos were manufactured. Did you know that there were over 2600 auto manufacturers? We have approximately 70,000 square feet on display for a wonderful adventure!
Also, while you're here you can play with the antique Rock-N-Roll revolution band operating throughout our miniature golf area. |

The Rock and Roll Diner complete with Fountain and "Soda Jerk"
Kids of all ages really enjoy the 1950's diner that was recreated as a permanent display in the museum. It is complete with a jukebox and a pinball machine that visitors can play. The diner comes equipped with an old-time soda fountain and a mannequin is dressed as a soda jerk behind the counter "ready" for his next order. In front of this fun doo-wap diner, there is a 1956 Olds 98 Starfire convertible parked with mannequins dressed as James Dean and Marylin Monroe. They look like they are enjoying ice cream sundaes and root beer floats. At this display, visitors recall fond memories of their rock and roll diner days of the 50's. TOP |
 Replica 1950's Service Station
Rag Tops Museum has a replica of a 1950's era service station. It is complete with an open bay area for service work and fully stocked with automotive parts and manuals. There's even a mannequin dressed as an attendant in a jumpsuit tending to customer's needs. The look of the service station is enhanced by its unique floor. The City of Michigan City donated over 1,800 bricks to Rag Tops. Instead of the city paving over old brick roads, they removed the brick first and donated them accordingly. Rag Tops was fortunate to receive some of these bricks from the city. They were then put to work once more as the floor for the service station. In front of the service station there are several automobiles "waiting" at the gas pumps. This wonderful replica was truly a labor of love and every detail was given careful consideration. Visitors really appreciate this great addition to the museum. TOP |
 Bing Crosby Jukebox
In addition to the service station and the rock and roll diner, Rag Tops has a great variety of exhibits that add nostalgia! One room of the museum is devoted to a Lionel train layout. Train fanatics will appreciate the attention to detail and delight in this display once owned by the Lionel Train Company!
There are many jukeboxes, such as a Bing Crosby jukebox, a 1940's 45-rpm jukebox, and a nice assortment of pinball machines throughout the museum. And there is an extensive bicycle collection, such as a 1952 Schwinn Black Phantom and a 1968 Schwinn Stingray, among others. There are old signs on the walls and even memorabilia hanging from the ceiling. Oil cans, gas pumps and vintage items are carefully placed throughout the museum. There are showcases of old toys, reminders of a simpler time, on display. Even the hallway leading into the museum is fully decorated with a clown and circus theme. Mannequins dressed as soda jerks, garage attendants, clowns, and even Elvis, are propped everywhere breathing life into each display. For those of you that love to pick up a few items for yourself, don't forget to take a stroll among the many items we have in our antiques, memorabilia and car parts section upstairs. TOP |
